This is why I can’t get into any super suave!James Potters. In my headcanon, James Potter spent waaaaaay too much time worrying about who she was talking to and what her favorite color was and if he could make her like him more and other massively stupid shit like that. And Lily by comparison was chill and way more relaxed/less into worrying about what he might think of her because whatever. Not like dudes don’t like her; more like the dudes that like her tend to be dickish.
